Here I am, so happy to have my beautiful little girl helping me to "smash!" Mason PR invited me to be a part of the Official Grand Opening of SMASHBURGER. They asked me to create my own signature "Survivor Rita" Hamburger:) These hamburgers are really the juciest hamburgers that I've EVER tasted...soooo good. I also tried their seasoned and veggie fries. Everything was truly delicious. My whole family, except my brother, who btw, would LOVE these hamburgers, came with me. We had a GREAT time. I'm workin' on uploading the video I took that day. Unfortunately, I erased it from my camera and my computer won't read DVD's:(
At the Tommy Nobis Kick Off Rally held at Jefferson High School, San Antonio, I ran into a wonderful man, Mr. Red McCombs. He is an ICON of San Antonio and, therefore, it's always such a pleasure and honor to run into him. Every time I run into him, he fills me with more energy to keep on the road that I am on as he tells me how proud he was of my participation on SURVIVOR FIJI and how I handled myself. Making Red proud is like making my own father proud. Red is very sweet to let me know that he's followed my "career" since being on SURVIVOR and how very proud he continues to be of the work I continue to do, both for the community and for my career as a tv host. Thank you so much, Red. As I already wrote, it's always an honor and a pleasure to be in your presence!
When my season of Survivor aired, I received an invitation to throw the first pitch for the local baseball team, The San Antonio Missions. Now, I've always been a super active mommie, constantly participating in playing sports with my very athletic son. I'd played baseball with my son and his friends many times so I thought, piece of cake! My son was very excited that his mommie was going to throw the first pitch so he rounded up a few of his buddied and out we went to practice. What I got was a broken garage door panel and the realization that I really sucked at pitching! lol. My little boy's excitement soon turned into the relizatoin that he might be embarrassed by his mommie so, to my disappointment, my son came up with some excuse not to go to the game. As it turns out, I did GREAT! I threw the pitch right down the middle. I did have a video of this, but the camcorder with this video was stolen at the Happiest place on earth, Disneyland:) From what I understand, the girl who was videotaping my pitch, Lisa Martin of Creative Civilization, told me the baseball players were whistling and saying things like "we don't really care how Rita pitches as long as she looks like that." Wow!! Actually, I admit, I was really nervous about not pitching well so I did have another "strategy" and that was, indeed, tryting to distract a bit weraing a cute outfit..lol. Alrighty, this LONG story was the intro to how I got this invite to do an autograph signing at the Quarry Cinema in San Antonio. When I finished pitching, the Mission's mascot, The Ballapeno came running up to me with a photo of me on Survivor. Turns out I was so lucky, he was a huge fan of the show. Also, even luckier for me, Wesley (the Ballapeno), is a Mananger at the Quarry Cinema. He asked me to help him raise funds for the Boys and Girls Club of America. Of course I accepted! Here are some images from that day. I had so much fun especially because I was able to share the day with my daughter and her girlfriends. Afterwards, Wesley generously treated us to the movies. We saw the tearjerker...yes, I have officially turned into my mother!..UP.
I'm so honored to have been asked to Emcee the first of a series of events for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, ultimate, Tower Climb 2010! I was so happy to have Mr. Hugh Farr ask me if I would be interested. Over and over, my faith in God is rewarded as HE keeps putting me at the right place at the right time. When I ran into Hugh recently at a local IADT Fashion Show, was one of those times. Something made him invite me to Emcee this event without his knowledge that I had another reason for wanting to be part of this cause. A couple of years ago, a dear friend and fellow Greek,Randall Boudouris made headlines when he bicycled cross country raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation because one of his daughters suffers from this disease. It's for this reason, that I feel so fortunate to have this opportunity to help The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and my friend, Randy. Please, join us at this and all upcoming events to help us raise funds to find the cure for this debilitating and fatal disease.

Recommend 0 Jeanne Jakle - Jeanne Jakle San Antonio's Rita Verreos, our "Survivor" alumna, recently got wild and crazy on another CBS show, "The Price is Right."
Verreos, a mom, model and pageant coach, said she nearly knocked down host Drew Carey. Then she flirted with him — in Spanish no less. The episode airs at 10 a.m. Friday on KENS.
It started as a birthday present to her mother, Raquel Verreos, who also lives in San Antonio: two tickets to Los Angeles. Their first order of business was to get on "The Price is Right."
Mom certainly dressed the part, Verreos said. "She wore a T-shirt that said 'It's my birthday. I'm 75 today,' cute skinny jeans with rhinestones and a little red cowboy hat. She looked adorable."
Verreos was encouraged by her mom also to make a "look-at-me" T-shirt. "It said, 'The third time is the charm,' " she told me, explaining she'd been in the show's audience twice before but wasn't picked.
First time was 30 years ago, when she was about 10. Then-host Bob Barker had walked up to her seat to talk to her. "But we had just moved here from Venezuela and I didn't speak any English and couldn't understand him," Verreos said with a groan.
This time, however, she and her mom were determined to make up for prior disappointments. They exhibited lots of personality so they'd stand out among the hundreds waiting. It worked, at least for Rita.
When the taping started, she was called to the stage. "I was the first contestant!" she said. "I went ballistic." She wouldn't reveal how she did on the item bids but did say she spun the wheel and didn't go home empty-handed.
Verreos also hoped she hadn't hurt Carey. "I was so excited I jumped on him. But he seemed OK. He was cracking up the whole time."
After giving shout-outs to her mom in the audience and then to her kids in San Antonio, she looked up at Carey and noticed how strikingly blue his eyes were.
"I told him: 'Que bonitos ojos tienes!' (What beautiful eyes you have!)," Rita recalled. "He said 'I don't understand what you said but it sounded really good.' "
When it was over, she said, "I had the same feeling I had after my first parachute jump. My adrenaline was pumping. I couldn't believe I had made it on such an iconic American show." Though she would have preferred her mom to have been picked on her birthday, she added: "I know my mommy and she couldn't have been happier that her daughter got chosen."
She returned to San Antonio a much different Rita from the woman of "Survivor: Fiji" two years ago who got cut several weeks into the televised competition. When viewers watch "Price is Right" Friday, she promised, they'll see "an energetic Rita, not the starved, dehydrated one on 'Survivor.' "
Best of all, Verreos has a more positive TV catchphrase ringing in her head these days: "Instead of 'The tribe has spoken,' I keep hearing 'Rita Verreos: Come on down!' "
